Are you wondering what your Coat of Arms looks like? Or you already know and would like it presented in a way that is worthy of hanging on a wall?  Gifted Memories has over 100000 names in our database and we would love to help you create a special keepsake coat of arms and family name origin.

Coat of Arms were given to families in the early ages so that during battle, those kitted out in full armoury could see from a distance who it was from the Coat Of Arms on their shield.  Because the Coat of Arms were given to families, this can mean that for any given name, there may be tens of different coats of arms.  Some names are known to originate in different countries, and these names will also have different coats of arms to those in other countries.

A coat of arms has a great amount of symbolism. The shape of the shield (escutcheon) can hint to whether the name was given to a man, woman, or member of the clergy.  The colours (tinctures) and patterns (fur), can symbolise different qualities of the person it was given to, and the symbols themselves also point towards the type of characteristics that the person had.

Different banding can symbolise stature, as can some of the symbols.

It is almost impossible to get all researchers to agree on what each symbol means on coats of arms, but they generally all roughly translate to be very similar.

If I don't have your coat of arms, I have other sources to try to obtain it.  It is only very rarely that I cannot locate your coat of arms, and this is usually for some of the more uncommon European names.

Perhaps you know your coat of arms?  I have been emailed coats of arms and family crests that have been drawn by a long past family member. I can help re-create your coat of arms using my large library of symbols, producing a wall-worthy creation that will be well received by the recipient of the gift.

I can also give an insight into the history of the family name.  It's origin, how the name came to be (perhaps it was from a nickname (Short, Brown, Young), a location (Stone, Wood, Lee, Hill), an occupation (Archer, Baker, Cook, Mason), or simply baptismal (Jackson = Jack's son). Names originate from many different countries, the most common originate from different parts of great Britain, such as Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England.  I can also give early examples of the name, along with variations of the name.

If you are short on time, or email coat of arms means that you will have your coat of arms within a couple of days. We also have beautiful gold frames that add a touch of luxury.
